Cats Paw

(WDCS UK Adopt A Whale)

(watch a video clip below of how she was named)

Cat's Paw was named for the white mark on her all-black fluke that resembles a paw print.  Look closely, the paw print is on the left side of her tail.  It may not look very large here, but her tail is 13-14 feet wide and perhaps 4 feet high!

Cat's Paw has a unique feeding style un-copied by any other humpback whale in the world.  She spyhops up through the center of a school of fish with her mouth closed.  It is on the way down that she opens her mouth and 1000's of gallons of water and fish pour in.  It is incredible to see.  She is the only whale that can be identified by her style of feeding.

Cat's Paw is a co-star on  Salt & Friends, (60 minutes) a Telly Award winner and said to be the best nature program in the world. Salt & Friends opens with the story of how Salt was named and introduces Cat's Paw, as well as thirteen other popular and often sighted humpback whales.
