Sod Sod is another whale named for scratches or scars on her dorsal fin. She takes her name as an acronym "Scratches On Dorsal". Over the years since she was first seen in 1979, the scratches have mostly healed and are not easily seen. But her tail pattern is very easily identified.
Sod is an active feeding whale and can be seen in dramatic open mouth lunges. You can easily see the baleen growing from her upper jaw. The birds are there to steal a fish or two from Sod.
