Tear

Tear is easy to identify because most of his fluke is white and there are several scars quite obvious at a distance.  There are two parallel lines near the top of the left part.  Tear's fluke also is quite droopy.  Finally, Tear has a mark in the center of his fluke that looks like a teardrop.

Below, Tear with the white chin is seen feeding with Isthmus.  Tear has a unique feeding technique.  When with Isthmus, he was seen lifting his chin up and then spinning in towards Isthmus, before diving.

A Real Whale Watch Trip - September 12, 1999 ($12.95)

We left the pier and 40 minutes later sailed into the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.  We saw several humpbacks feeding in the distance.  It was a delight when one of the humpbacks feeding with an open mouth lunge was identified as Tear.  When Tear lunged right by the boat, it was as if we were part of a Discovery Channel program!
